Frequently Asked Questions

Why this, why now?

Recently, while on holiday in Indonesia, I found some time out to re-ask myself the question: Who am I, what are my strengths and weaknesses, and what should I be doing with my life? The answer was a long-awaited epiphany: I should write. So, here I am.

Who am I?

I grew up in a small town in the north of England with working-class parents who believed in education. I studied French and German at the University of Oxford. The gulf between my early upbringing and my later world left me with trauma and, eventually, the wrong career. Now I choose truth and freedom, and I want to share what I can to help others.

What will my content look like?

My writing is ultimately about the search for meaning and redemption. On the blog you’ll find reflections on love and death, sociology and education, crime and punishment, politics and finance, travel and philosophy, psychology and spirituality — an exploration of both the heights and the depths of the human condition. Often through unexpected juxtapositions. If you prefer something more practical, please take a look at my Simply Better Living site.

A community concerned with meaning – if you like

I’d love to build an eclectic, multicultural community of readers who share an interest in these themes — a place where dialogue is welcome. I plan to publish weekly reflections, and from time to time I’ll also share drafts of my novels and short stories, inviting your feedback before they’re published.
